building new comp

**UPDATED**

ok, my aunt's old system is messed up. all that is wrong is she needs new memory. but, it's an old hp that is crappy anyways, so she asked me how much it would take to get a new one. told her she'd get off cheaper by having me build her one. so she asked me to get her a price

i think i got a pretty good idea of the stuff i'm gonna use. just want your opinions on it. and also, need some advice on what kind of cables i will need to buy. never actually got all the parts to build a fresh system, so i'm not sure what comes with what. any help would be appreciated

*by the way, the only thing she does with a computer is listen to cd's, play cheaper games [such as snood, bejeweled, etc], check e-mail and go onto those animated joke sites (you know the ones)*

(by the way, cup holder/cig lighter seemed appropriate as she smokes like a chimney and never goes without a beer)

For what she is going to use it for, it looks fine, maybe even overkill. I would get a quality power supply (Antec), and not rely on a PSU that comes with a case (cheap). You already get speakers with the case, why buy others? I would skip the lighter and beverage holder, and the speakers, and use that money to get a good quality power supply. You can always get those items later, but if the power supply goes, it can take everything with it. How big is her present hard drive; does she need a 120 gig HDD? What operating system are you going to use? XP Home will cost at least an extra $80. As far as cables go, they should all be included with the various items (HDD, CD, DVD, PSU) you buy.

I hope you are not going get the blue case, as the CD and DVD drives are hard to match and look funky with any other color other than blue, or silver.

good points.
i was figuring probably xp home for what she needs. forgot about the OS

and the speakers, i don't know if you looked at them or not, but i put that there because it's actually a 5.25" drive bay. i just thoght it had a cool look to it

and yes, i know what you mean about the blue case, but the other ones i seen that were combo's looked really funky.

and the only reason i put the cup holder/cig lighter in there, when i used to go stay the night every now and again, i can't count the times that i've heard her complaining that her lighter quit on her and she can't find another one. she is a BAD kind of chain smoker. lol

i'll do a little more look on it

oh, and the hdd, i changed it. it's now a 160 gb hdd. only reason for that is because, well, a 160gb hdd for $50 is a real good deal.

she had a 30 gig hdd in her old system, and she had installed so much junk, that before it crashed, it ended up having like 2 gig's free. (she's real bad at installing those free trial games and all sorts of mahjong disc's and stuff

could you suggest a decent one? i don't really know anything about psu's and i would probably end up picking a cheap one. and i'm sure you know a lot more about it then i would
(by the way, i'm trying to stick with using tigerdirect and xoxide if possible. it's just be easier ordering that way. but if you know any sites that would be better to use for something, please let me know)

and, i have made some changes to the specs. later i will add in descriptions of each to help avoid having to click on all the links and everything
