I have about a $1700 budget to build a new computer. I do have some things in mind already but i want input from other more experienced people.

I'd like 12 GB of DDR3 1600 RAM, and i'm pretty much set on the intel i7 930 CPU. I'll be keeping a few parts from my current PC but I will be needing a new case, mobo, processor, video card (maybe 2 for sli/x-fire), PSU, 1 hard drive, 1 optical drive, and a cpu cooler.

What are you using it for? 12 gigs way more than people need, most people wouldn't use 6. Also, with that kind of budget you really should get a ssd because the hard drive will just bog it down.

i was gonna go with 12 gigs to kindof futureproof the thing a little bit. i've also read that you should get ddr3 memory from the same production run or it will be more likely that you will run into issues with it. so i was just gonna get it all at once now.

No need of 12GB and computers are not to be bought for future just for present. I wll put up 8GB for you and it should be enough...
