Building New Computer - Parts Check Please!

Well, I've finally put together my new computer. The specifications are like this.

First off, I know the GFX is crap. I will be upgrading to a GTX280 1GB OC'ed Edition after christmas. I know there is no optical drive (I have a BluRay Reader to use), and no PSU (have a Hiper 880W Quad-SLi ready thing). There is also an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro, but they were out of stock when I made this quote (so it wasn't saved).

What do you reckon on those two combined with the rest of the components? They all compatible? Anything you would change?

Also, as a matter of interest, when you build a PC - exactly what kind of warranty do you get (eg power surge fries the whole machine, or PSU fails and fries board, CPU and HDD's, and other scenarios like that)?

Thanks for any help.

what?? Your building another PC for you, WOW  upgrade to 2 x 2GB of ram, otherwise that looks good. :)

You have to RMA the broken bits if they're within the terms of the warranty, i.e. not modified usually and the company will test them and then decide what to do from there...

Out of interest, why do you have seem to have that power-tower and then go and create a gaming rig with roughly half the gaming power?

EDIT: Cohen, 2 * 2GB = 4GB...

The PC is actually for my brother. Don't know why I said for me, but its an upgrade from a Dell Inspiron 530S (E4700 @ 2.6Ghz, 3GB RAM, Home Premium, 2400XT 256Mb). He bought it about a year ago, and it's not really fast enough for gaming any more. Also, I know the RAM is a 1 x 2GB kit, but I'm ordering 2 (shown on image).

As I said to Cohen, the PC is actually for my brother. It's much less than half the power too (well, for games anyway). At christmas, he's gonna get an XFX GTX280 1GB OC'ed Edition. After that, he wants to wait a while, and see about upgrading to GTX280 SLi.

With regards to the warranty, thanks for the information. But, say the PSU breaks, and takes the board, processor and HDD's with it. What happens then? (Bought all components except current 4870X2's, HDD's and screen from local store, as didn't really know too much about eBuyer at the time - just returned to there if I found a problem, and they replaced it, but only one dead board).

I was looking at the XFX nForce 780i SLi chipset, and the eVGA nForce 780i SLi chipset. The only thing that made me overlook those, were all the reviews stating that there were video corruption problems on those chipsets. Check this video, accompanying one of the reviews I read. The corruption happens at about 50 seconds in for anyone watching.

If you can suggest a board that does not recieve these video corruption problems, but is still around £100~ (£200 absolute max!) and available in the UK, I welcome your input. Or have they fixed these problems?

From eBuyer, you can only get the Q6600 retail edition at the moment (the one with the crappy stock Intel fan). Seeing as my brother wants power, but isn't happy about overclocking (and eBuyer don't sell the Q6600 OEM version), it is actually cheaper, and obviously better (due to no overclocking).

Thanks for all of your replies so far.

Didn't see that you were buying 2 :P, sorry, nice, that will be good then.

Thanks for the info. Gotta wait a couple of weeks till he gives me the money, but I'll post some pics and info here when I'm done. I know there are already several guides, but I might make one when building this anyway. I might post it if wanted, but if not, I'll just shove it on my site like the rest of my crap (after the redesign).

Thanks again.
