Building new computer.

Hello all!

This is my very first post, so please be gentle!

So, my very trusted old computer went ahead and died on me, and now I intend to buy the parts and build a new one myself.

What I want is a strong gaming computer, but I also want to watch movies and (obviously) browse the web.
I really would not want to spend a lot more money than the set below will cost me. Maybe a little more, but only if it would get me a lot more out of my machine!

Anyway, this is what I have come up with. Is it all compatible? Will it be a good computer?
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

MOBO: ASUS Maximus III Formula Republic of Gamers Series - ATX - iP55

Microsoft Windows 7, Ultimate, 64-bit Eng OEM Win

Intel X25-M G2 80GB

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 - hårddisk - 1 TB - SATA-300

GPU: Sapphire RADEON HD 5850

Case: Antec Nine Hundred Two

PSU: Corsair TX650W

hello, Welcome to the forum, here are my thoughts,
everything seem to fit together, except you have not specified the Ram specs, i.e. is it DDR2/3, what speed and so on.
Please tell more exact budget so we can see how we can stretch the parts a bit more and also if you are working in dollars or else. i like the OS hard drive choice, the SSD is good. GPU very good. i am personaly building too and went for the later version of the i7 - the 930, but that different socket from yours the 1366, so if want this need mobo which sees the 1366 socket. I think this build is prety good to handle any game or movie you will be watching, i mean look below into my signature and see what i have at present, this runs all games at full settings for everything and works perfectly no lag or anything, and watching Blu ray not a problem, either. browsing the net, i think even your old computer can do that, xD

The "Kingston ValueRAM" thingys are DDR3 SDRAM. (I don't even know what SDRAM means) And the speed is 1333 MHz. (That's the speed, right?)
My budget as of now, is 17924 Swedish Kronor, which is about 2250 US Dollars.

Great Budget, i think for this amount we can improve a bit, i.e. get the tripple channel in there, for now you only have dual channel there. the ram, the S just means synchronous, which could be considered a bit better, depended how you see it. right now if you tell me the shop you want to buy your staff from, i might be able to see the part i would buy. For the budget you have, you can get very good computer, this is what i posted on this forum, http://www.computerforum.com/176278-new-build-comments.html, very similar to yours and smaller budget too.
 
I think you should consider core i7 920/930 on X58 platform. Or even with P55 platform, I don't really see the point of getting $250 mobo.

While for RAM, I am not really recommend Value Ram, I belive you could afford a better one.
 
Hello guys!

I will probably buy from this place: http://www.misco.se/. But I'm open for suggestions.
As for the motherboard, I kind of just started out with the 860, and "built" the rest around it. I was looking at the 930, but then I realised that it has a different socket, so I would have to start over again, and I was a bit discouraged!
I am however willing to start over with a new MOBO, if you guys think that is the best.

for a P55 board dual channel memory works better than tripple channel since the it has a dual channel memory controller
for x58 boards tripple channel memory should be used

Hello again!
So, it would seem that x58 is more of a "standard", and not a make of motherboards. Which one do you think that I should get?
And with the x58, I get the 1366 socket, so I could get i7 920 or 930, which means three channel memory, if I'm not mistaken.
So what kind of RAM should I get?

Are the rest of the components from my original choise compatible?

great looking setup, just a few points:

i've had way better reliabilty out of western digital cav greens/blacks and please dont cheap out on Kingston ValueRAM - spend a few bucks more for good fast memory - worst place to try and save a buck on your new build!
 
Yes, I changed the RAM to Corsair Value Select. What's the difference between "Value select" and "Value ram" anyway?

Same type of product but just a different name, it's their budget line of RAM. I would look into the higher end RAM if it's on a few bucks more.
