Building new computer

I have been in need of a new computer for a while. So, I decided that I would try to build my own since I hear it's a lot cheaper than buying a prebuilt. The problem is I have 0 experience with computer parts so I need some help. I have picked out some parts, but I am not sure if they are all compatible or if there are cheaper/better products on the market. My budget is ~$550 (not including the monitor and keyboard) and I want to use the computer for gaming and editing video.

first, nice for a first timer, but, check around for the 6770, if there are any for within 10 then get it, otherwise it isn't worth it, but also, 600watts is more than you need but too little for sli or xfire, or getting 2 gpu's if you don't know, get the 500 watt corsair builder series, its 10 less than that and has a rebate, also, get the 955 not 65, only difference is 1 on the multiplir, so you can change that in bios easily and save 10 or so bucks, but really an i3 may be better, it is faster in almost everything, but if you don't get it then at least get an am3+ motherboard for 15 more so you can get on of amd's new processors coming out in a couple months, otherwise you'd need a new mobo and cpu and maybe more, also spend the 10 for a non-green hdd, is alot better and will be faster, and finally, i just don't like that case as much as like the m95 or rosewill destroyer, these are just some cooler ones to look at, but i know the m95 by nzxt has a combo with the hdd i was saying and it takes 15 off, you can check the others thow too.

save ten and get a 955, the only diff is amd lowered the multiplier 1, which you can undo easily and make it into a 965 that easily, also get a 7200rpm hdd, for 10 buck, what you saved on the cpu, you'll notice a difference in speed/responsiveness as it can locate the file and read it faster thanks to the speed, you will also need a new windows disk, get the oem 64-bit for 100, it and retail copies are the only ones that work, an upgrade disk won't, and if you plan on upgrading you cpu later on, the only real upgrade would be a bulldozer which is amd's next gen coming out later this year but is out of you budget (quad core is 190 supposedly, top model is a little over 300), but if you'd like that option then get an am3+ with prefferably a 900 series chipset, you'll want one around 100, the others bellow that don't have fx listed as supported, and who knows if they'll update it so they can.
 
Yeah the 955 is really good bang for buck, if you're serious about overclocking though, you should buy a 965/975/980 to get a higher binned chip.
