Building new gaming rig for friend - Will this be good?

Hello,

This rig is being built to play FFXIV as well as any day to day stuff. Her budget is about 700 Before taxes/shipping however this is about 840 before taxes/shipping. She may be able to run with this but we want to know if there are any suggestions to make this better with no extra cost or as good and cheaper. Any suggestions?

power supply is overkill. you only realistically need about 500w for that system, so chop the PSU down to a 600w or so one.

4850 is a good card but I'd take a 5770 or GTX 460 1Gb as they are more future proof, and support DirectX11.

You're also planning on unlocking the 555BE to a quadcore right? be advised that while it may work, there is also a good chance it won't. if you want to play it safe, get an Athlon II X4 (630, 535 or 640) and just overclock it to 3.5Ghz which is possible on the stock cooler (done it myself)
 
so the idea is shes building somthing that will work for the time being (Thats why i picked the 4850, to save money) but doesn't want to limit herself so she can upgrade later so with that said is 600W still enough? If Athlon II X4 is a safer bet I'm down except I've never over or unclocked somthing :/.
 
Where are you located at and where are you buying the parts from?

I looked at you list and I would do things different...of course you can ask 100 people and get 100 different answers. I will help pick some parts.
 
DVD burner - Get SATA. you should be able to find some at $20

Mobo - I don't see the point of getting 890FX chipset for this budget. Save the money to go for $100 AMD870 chipset. The saving should allow you to get Phenom II x4 955

PSU - No point to get 850W. Even you want to crossfire 4850, 750W is enough.
I suggest you go for $70 500W - 600W, the saving go to 5770 or 5830.
The cheapest 5770 is $135 after re-bate, while cheapest 5830 is $180 after re-bate. A lot better than 4850
 
Ventura CA area, will probly be getting the parts off Newegg. Even with the budget i want to be sure it can be upgraded in the future without replacing the motherboard. Also, will a PCI network card work with a PCI E slot?

You can drop the network adapter...your motherboard has a network port on it.

As for the power supply...put the extra $30 from the network card into a better power supply. Here is the one I have used for over 3 years now...rock solid and modular cables. It plows through anything. I have stress tested it with OCCT at 100% power load for over 2 hours. The voltage held solid and did not fluctuate at all. It can run my power hungry GTX 260 and a 9600 GSO with ease. For $75...it is hard to beat, Antec with a 5 year warranty.
