I look at the i7's and think surely there's an AMD version that comes close to matching the quality of that for a lot less money. I'm looking at bundles at the moment as I cba with the hassle of installing the CPU and doing BIOS myself, I've found this i7 bundle (http://www.awd-it.co.uk/intel-i7-2600-quad-core-3.4ghz-cpu-asus-p8p67-pro-rev-3-corsair-4gb-ddr3-1600mhz-bundle-bu104.html) Is there an AMD alternative anyone can suggest as I'm trying keep cost down in order to buy a higher end GPU?

I'll be using it for gaming and 3D modeling and game design in university, I'm now looking at the i5's instead as listed above :)

what about your os and hard-drive too, and what's your exact budget, i'm looking around now and will try to keep it under 500

this is a better deal, higher spead ram, higher quality mobo that actually supports overclocking the cpu which is the only reason the k costs more, as the non k's can't overclock, also a much cheaper gpu that'll be just as good, and a way better psu too (the other probably would have put out as much power as this one)

and that's the core components, but you will also need these things too

Some good suggestion :) I was just showing the main parts for the opinions on those as I was undecided on the rest. Quite like the GPU I'll look into it :) thanks. Also my budget is about £600

so what all are you re-using, and btw if you got that same windows disk i put, it is now linked to the current motherboard to prevent pirating, that's why the retail one that is transferable costs like 180 usd, can call microsoft to check on that but that's what i've been told before.
