Building new PC...question about bottlenecking

I am going to be starting a new build here soon and I had a question about bottlenecking. I am going to build something that is mainly going to be used for gaming. Now, I don't understand all of what causes bottlenecks between CPUs and GPUs, so that's one thing I was wondering about. Also, is it necessary to buy a high end gaming motherboard to support a (possibly) overclocked i7 and a high end NVIDIA graphics card? I just want to make sure the components I am buying are going to work smoothly together withotu spending extra money on "gaming" stuff I may or may not need.

I would say its not that necessary. The higher end boards will have more overclocking features than the non-high end, but that does not mean the boards will not overclock good.

And i7 vs i5 for gaming. There's very little difference and you would see very little performance gain. Better to use that extra money for a better graphics card.

Graphics cards, right now, will be the bottleneck for gaming, since that's what games rely on the most. If you have an i5 2500k overclocked, then you have your choice of any graphics card. The i5 will not bottleneck any card. And 8GB of 1600mhz+ RAM is the most optimal.

Okay...when you say the graphics card will be the bottleneck, do you mean it is going to be the one not able to keep up with the CPU, or the other way around. And thank you for the rest of the info, I will definitely look into getting something at least that good.

Its not that it won't keep up with it, its that the CPU won't be working at full potential at full settings with any kind of graphics card.

Okay cool. I will have to get the main components and see what it's looking like, then I may post them here and see what you think of them and if it would be decent enough. I appreciate the help so far.
