Building PC (Mostly For Gaming) - Feedback Appreciated

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to build my first PC after using laptops for the last 7 years. The PC will be used primarily for gaming, but may also be used to run some computation-heavy optimizations for work. I may also use it for casual crypto-currency mining at night (I don't expect to make any $$ off of this, but moreso as a way to learn more about crypto).

Please let me know if anything I listed here is either going to bottleneck the system, overkill, or if there is a better alternative. I am getting 2 graphics cards for SLI.

Also, I have never overclocked before and have no intention of overclocking right now, but would prefer to have a system that keeps that option open in the future.

I appreciate the help.

What kind of resolution gaming are you looking into?

A 1080 TI might be a better option for you. It's got near identical performance to having 2 cards but without the problem you may run into with SLi scaling.

1080p for sure and I may dabble in 4k down the line.

If I go with a 1080 TI can I SLI it a couple of years down the line with this set up if I need to? Also, does anyone have any experience with liquid cooled NVDA cards?

I have decided to replace the two 1070s for an evga 1080ti with integrated liquid cooling. This will take 90$ off of the price.

Also, I realized I forgot to pick out an HDD. Since I don't do much media I'm going to try to keep it on the cheap on this one with the Samsung EVO 850 250gb

After an O.S. and taxes this will probably put me around 2.2k total. Does anyone see anything else that is wrong with this build? I am hoping to put my order in sooner rather than later.

Thanks again for the help everyone.

Consider the Cryorig H7 cooler instead of the EVO. Just a little better all around. The 7700K runs a bit warm.

Just having a 250gb ssd is a bit tight in space. You might want to consider getting a regular 1tb mech drive. Preferably a WD Black series, but their Blue series is ok too.

I am going to be much better off with this drive WD black drive? Also, since this is a PCIe SDD can I still run SLI if I opt to get a second card in the future with the mobo I chose (I think the answer is yet but it would be great if someone could confirm).

As far as the cooler goes, pretty much a no brainer to go with the one you suggested jevery since they are basically the same price.

Thanks so much for the help guys. Is there anything else that I'm missing or could be better optimized?

The 1080TI is a great choice, as is the 7700K... I opted for air cooling on mine after 3 builds in a row with water cooling and I'm glad I made the switch.

The 7700K overclocks to 5.0ghz without batting an eye.

Also, I don't feel that water cooling is needed on the 1080TI.. I went with the MSI Gaming X variant and the dual fan Twin Frozr cooling is more than sufficient and I game with max/ultra in most games in 4K all day/everyday

Great thanks for the feedback everyone. I put my order in on newegg and amazon

I ended up sticking with the evga card since I may do some mining and I saw it can keep the card like 20C cooler. Also I simply went with the 500gb samsung ssd, I doubt I use it all and if ever get to that point SSDs will be much cheaper by then.

Now I just need to figure out how to build this thing lol.
