Well I've finally ordered all my parts for my new build. :) (see sig)

Does anybody have some general tips for building a computer as far as the actual construction. I've already read the sticky at the top and a few other guides and was wondering if any of you experienced builders could enlighten a newbie with some tips. :D

Thanks!

check for DOA before putting it down in the case.
Be sure to have all the standoffs in place first.
dont OC before you load windows.

1. Keep yourself grounded.
2. If your a minor organize a time with your parents when everyone is out of the house.
3. Have a wood workspace like a table.
4. Keep yourself grounded.
5. Dont be shy with the parts. Something just need a little man handling. This doesnt mean jam everything in and snap things, just dont be afraid to put some force when installing cables or handling the less fragile pieces. BE AFRAID TO PUT ANY PRESSURE AT ALL ON THE CPU. IT SHOULD DROP IN ON ITS OWN.
6. If you dont know what your doing read the instructions out loud.
7. Take is slow, stay organized.
8. Do one this at a time.
9. Have fun and make sure you let everyone know that you built your own pc when the subject comes up!

Thanks everyone. Yeah I'm having my dad help me out, although I hope to do most of it. :)

How would I check for DOA items with everything I ordered? I know about an out of case check to see if it goes to the motherboard screen. Should I hook up my HDD to see if it spins up during the out of case check?

the motherboard check is the most important one. It will help, cause if it wont boot to bios out of the case, then you dont have to pull everything to redo the same check.

And no, HDD is easy enough to remmove should it be bad. I would just assemble it and if its DOA, then remove it.

Alright thanks! I feel pretty confident about this but am afraid of DOA parts and messing up my CPU when putting it in. I've changed out RAM/GPUs/drives before so I know kind of what I'm doing.

Are you using the stock cooler?

Here's a tutorial Newegg did on upgrading an AMD cpu. Since this is a new build you can probably skip the section where he's removing the current cpu and cleaning thermal grease. I realize they're installing a 6-core cpu in the video, but I believe it's the same socket you'll be using and should install the exact same way.

Have fun with your new build! :)

Yeah I'm using the stock cooler. Thanks for that link :).

And thanks tremmor too but I already read that. Said in OP. ;) Couldn't hurt to read it again though.
