Building your own computer

I'm once again faced with upgrading my pc.

I usually buy a Dell every three years and have thus accumulated several over the years. I have been doing this cause; I can write them off and gain tax benefits; and technology is moving rapidly and about every 3 years seems about right to keep abreast of all the great new innovations etc.

Now, I'm wondering if it would be more cost effective and maybe even fun to build one myself.

I could max out the cpu and finish up with a pretty whiz bang system, but - I have never done this before.

Is it difficult sourcing components that are compatible with one another.

Can the members of this forum please set me on a learning curve and provide me with (more than) the basics to finish up with a rewarding build?

Cheers, Mal from Cessnock AU

What is your budget?

And building your own computer has more nag for buck, and better warranty and support I should add.

I've got a couple of g's in Au dollars.

What do you mean about "nag for buck"

Better warranty and support from Dell or your own build?

Thanks for your help so far SMGOwnage

i think he means better bang for your buck, and building yoiur own we can tell you what to buy so it's quality parts and those brands are almost always way better for warranties.

thanks jonnyp11

so where do i (we) go from here?

I'll need a list of parts.

I'll prepare a list of what I want and post it in one of the forums, but which one? This one?

Cheers, Mal

you could post it right here, but it might get more attentione if you poste a new thread saying the budget then the purpose so it would look like "$800 gaming build" or whatever you want
