my specs:

-antec 900
-asus p5k premium
-ocz stealthxtreme 650w
-2gb ram
and i got a zalman on my E6550....

i dunno if this happens on new systems, but i made this like 2 days ago, and there seems to be some strange smell... kinda like hot electronic smel...srry its kinda hard to explain the smell... but its kinda annoying. i know it isnt the cpu because its usually at ~5C idle.. and MB at ~25C... so is it normal to get this kinda smell???

could be your PSU.
i just smelt my computer i could not smell anything, but when i put my nose where my PSU fan is all the air coming out of my PSU smelt like that

i suppose for a new computer it is possible...

and those definately arent the right temps.

my cpu idles at like 45*C.

It is possible to get that smell a little if everything it "brand" new... check and make your nothing is shorting out, and be sure you don't see any smoke or haze from the computer.

i checked near the zalman, but i cant see any smoke or anything, i checked the vid card aswell, dunno where else to check for smoke?... i just smelt near my psu, cant really say but its a very light smell.. its only SOMETIMEs.. also, where i live is pretty cold, atm cpu is at 7C zalman turning at 2896RPM, and yea everything new.

thx for the fast replies, im starting to think it might be my PSU...because i can actually smell a light smell from it

edit: just opened the case and took a good sniff at the zalman... and i thin kthat might be it,,, the fins or w.e smell what i was smelling ><

how cold is the ambient temperature?
your cpu idling at 7c is practiclly impossible.
if your ambient temperature is higher than 5c, the temp reading is bad.

if i were you i'd turn on your computer when it's opened.
and then check where the smell is coming from.

my room should be around 21C-22C.. yeah i thought it its pretty low too, but when the heater works it goes up to around 14-15C o.0

also, my case is really quite cold..i mean its not warm at all... not even the psu... when i play games the back middle is the only part that gets warm... hmm i should check the temp of my cpu when im playing games

edit: just updated my bios,
CPU at idle is ~15C-20C ... cpu fan is still 2860rpm, Ai Suite shows errors, im using ai probe atm to get this info..and of course in bio
