Built the computer, couple of questions

firstly thanks to spirit and smith and others for helping me out with the build, I had my buddy help me put it together seems to be running almost flawlessly.

couple questions though

1. after screensaver and coming back on the computer after 20 minutes or whatever It goes back to the logon screen. I tried pressing personalize, background etc the box "resume on logon screen" is NOT selected.
any ideas?

2. When I turn of the computer it seems completely inactive (move mouse, doesn't respond etc just like screensaver) EXCEPT the blue light on the power is still on and the case fans seem to still be running. normal for newer computers? any way to FULLY turn it off without the switch in the back of the computer?

Not sure about 1.

For two, are you pressing shut down in Windows, not just sleep?
Try also holding down the physical power button on your tower

yes I select "shut down" if I press in the button it starts up from being "off", like it boots up. I guess maybe the little light just stays on all the time, but I found it odd the fans also stay on aswell.
 
Sounds like you have some wiring issues. What fan is still on? Cpu fan? Case fan? Another possibility is that you have a short somewhere, motherboard touching the case. Did you use the standoffs between motherboard and case? You should build the pc outside of the case to see if it responds normally.

Yea used standoffs, I built this with a friend I really hope it's not wiring issues I'd probably have to call him back up.

also after installing windows updates this comes up on my screen

if it's a short UGHHH, I really don't want to tear this whole thing apart after spending 3 hours or so building it.
 
For that error message, you just need to disable an asus program from running at bootup. I suspect you have windows 8? If so, then open task manager and click on the startup tab and disable any asus program you see.

As for your main issue, unfortunately you will have to do some diagnosing. Hopefully you only put the standoffs where necessary. You only need them where the screw holes are on the motherboard. Putting them where no hole is will cause a short. Build it outside of the case on a piece of cardboard to see if it works correctly. if it does then you have a short.
 
i've got windows 7. the thing is I didn't do the standoffs but he said he put them all in. so... . crap. maybe he did wrong spots. I just don't get why the only thing that would affect is the fans though..? everything is running great, played several games on this already, downloaded several programs etc
 
Stop using the system until you figure this out. You could ruin your system. If you don't know how to diagnose then take the system to a local mom and pop repair place and have them look at it. Don't take to geek squad or any other major retailer as they will over charge you.

ok Not the answer I was hoping for but I guess your probably right, just pretty disappointing :( Ill take it to a place close by me, they have free diagnostics so that's a plus at least..
 
I would say if your not manualy putting it into sleep mode etc its most likely a problem with the bios. Either needs reseting, re-flashing or a setting in there power management etc is causing it.

do you still have the pc with you, if so update the bios to current version and im sure that will sort it.
 
im unsure as to what specs you have. if from your last thread you have an Asus board then go to the Asus website here: http://www.asus.com/uk/support/ although should be similar for all manufacturers.

Make sure first that everything overclocking wise is set to default.

where it says support type in the exact model of your motherboard and search. Then click on drivers and tools and select current OS. Then on the list click on BIOS not BIOS-utilities. Download the latest version.

extract the zip file and then extract the bios file only to a flash drive, makes it easier if that is the only file on the flash drive. In your motherboard settings there will be a bios flash tool, ez flash 2 something like that. It should be under the tools section of the bios. Click on that and navigate to the flash drive with the bios file on. Select the bios file and click update. will take a minute or so and will update to the current BIOS. Then the pc should restart and it should be good to go.

there's no other way to do it? I don't have flash drive.
 
Second Issue Is Confusing

Well, I'm not sure about the first problem, but I think I might have an idea for the second one and I think it might be un-fixable. I have had a similar issue but instead, with me it was my mouse and keyboard that would stay illuminated even after I had completely shut down my PC. I think that it could possibly be a bug with Windows 8 and I have not found a way to fix it. As far as I can tell, the computer should not be consuming any more power than it regularly would if it wasn't having this weird issue.

What is the make and model of the motherboard? I use Gigabyte and they have a Windows program to load the BIOS. Although it is recommended to use a flash drive to upload the BIOS. Asus may have a similar utility to update BIOS in Windows.
