bulldozer

Hopefully there won't be any problems in the new release by Advanced Micro Devices. AMD has not had problems since the release of the first generation Phenom processors.

I am hoping that processing power will match or surpass Intel's Bloomfield Processors.

I've been holding off on building waiting for these to come out. Hopefully it's worth the wait!

If you have a system with a Phenom 9850 I do not think you will be disappointed in your wait. The Phenom II Processors were about 30% more powerful clock for clock over the first generation Phenoms. Bulldozer series is going to have even more processing power.

(Woo hoo! I just reached 3,500 posts on this forum!)

Congrats on 3,500!

And yes, the 9850 is my current system... It has tested my will power the past couple of years to not upgrade this system!

What software are you running that is taxing your Phenom 9850 Quad-Core Processor?

If you had a Phenom II 955 Processor it would be approximately the equivalent of your Phenom 9850 running at a 3.9 gigahertz clock speed. That is about 57 percent more processing power just with the Phenom II 955 Quad-Core. And Bulldozer series are going to be better.

Well it's not so much that I'm running especially taxing software. I use it for schoolwork, web browsing, learning to program in C# and with various Java editors. Probably the most taxing thing I use it for is gaming, but the overall feel of the computer is just not as snappy and responsive as I'd like it to be. And I'm also running Vista with Aero disabled so you think it'd be decent, but I'm just ready for an upgrade.

You make a good point though about something like the 955. Depending on the cost of a Bulldozer chip and what their performance is like, I may just buy an AM3 board and a 965 or something like that, and then I can overclock it to my liking if need be! I'd also like to pair whatever CPU I get with an SSD for the OS and the main programs I use. Now I start to see the dollar signs piling up.... Oh well...

I do hope so.Even I was looking forward. If the performance kills the sandy bridge,I would upgrade immediately.
its been A long time since I was on the AMD platform.
Have been using intel for the past 5 years. The Core 2 Duo and then the i7.
The thing with BullDozer will be even if after some time they release a processor with AM4 socket then the probabilities of the backward compatibility of that processor will be way higher compared to Intel's probability of releasing a backward compatible chip.Which in my opinion is 0.

Intel's latest trend is to switch motherboard sockets when new processors come out. I do not know why they have decided to do this.

For those who do not know, AMD Zambezi 32 nanometer processors support DDR3 1866 memory and will have enhanced Turbo Core technology. It looks like this line will probably match or exceed Intel's Bloomfield Processors in my opinion.

The Intel Bloomfield series of Processors is first generation Socket 1366 Core i7.

Obviously there are no marks out yet on the Zambezi so this is just my opinion of looking at numbers and making my best estimate.

Edit: I am comparing the Quad-Core Zambezi with the Quad-Core Bloomfield Processors.
