Burned CD won't play

I notice that a burned CD that I have for about 8 years now is having problems playing in my CDplayer. Actually you can't hear any music. Is it a case where the CD has gotten old I mean the side that has the label is like kind of yellow similar to when a paper ages ad change color. That side use to be a silver color.

cd lifespan

Disks have a definate lifespan. There are special archival CDs but even that is a risky way to store important data. CD technology will most assuredly morph into a completely different media form as have 78s, 33 1/3s, various tape devices. Even now VHS is fading fast. When that last VHS player stops working you are stuck with a bunch of useless media. The only really safe storage would still be a hard copy. When I converted my vinyl to CD I saved the origional disks and that was a fortunate move. Some CDs have already began to fail. Glued on labels seem to be a major factor.
