Burning problem

I'm currently trying to burn some old-time radio show recordings onto an audio CD. These show are very small space wise due to low audio quality. What I'm trying to find out is if I can fill a CD with audio tracks based off of size not time. Because using one 700megabyte 80 minute CD to record two 20-megabyte 40 minute radio shows seems like a waste.
 
CD audio is it's own format. I assume you've compressed the files into MP3s or something that's rather highly compressed and lower quality. Regardless of this, the files will need to be converted into the typical CD-Audio format so CD players can read them. If this is such a problem, burn the audio as data disks. Most DVD players can also play MP3s off DVD and CDs. I use a DVD player to play MP3s into my stereo.
 
funny thing i just did the same for my parents. Old radio shows, war of the world radio broadcast, and about 30 others. my parents could not play mp3 so i did like mentioned above. (similar). used nero and converted to wav. then used nero and burned as data.
