ok another problem. i just everything in the computer connected everything. it would not turn on i dont know why with the power button. but there is a power button on the motherboard which i pressed then the fans started spinning and everything seemed to work but then the DVD drive started smoking....... wtf do i do?

Well you probably didn't have you power button hooked up right I have been building computer for 3 year now and have around 190 builds under my belt and still hook the power button up wrong sometime. Also the power button could be broke. If you CD drive is smoking the unplug it immediately before you damage anything else. Most likely the CD drive is fried and will never work again. What might of happened is some of the pins got crossed in the connector and fried your drive I did the same thing to my side fan not long ago.

so what do i do with the CD drive now can i replace it or do i have to buy a new one. i bought it last friday from newegg

my old computer still has a dvd drive in it. is it ok that i take that one out and put it in my new computer will it still work in the future if i put a new DVD drive in it, the os and everything

Yes you can use the DVD drive it won't hurt anything the OS only looks at the motherboard, CPU, RAM. If you call newegg they will probably let you send it back and get another one just tell them it started smoking when you plugged it up. Don't forget to check the pins in the connector before you plug something else into it make sure all the pins are straight and not crossed and if the connector doesn't go in smoothly then don't force it.

I remember my first I was so scared I was going to mess something up.

Me too. My first build was my i7 - but I was scared I was gonna screw up the Socket - or CPU upon install - b/c I read the pins are super delicate. I almost went for a budget build to get confidence in what I was getting into - but I ended up jumping in with both feet.

Everybody's got to start with their first. Next build should be a breeze.

I built my first computer when I was 14 it was a P3 system I had been putting parts in computer long before that but this was my first ever start to finish build. My dad had bought all the parts for me for my birthday and a really nice computer tool kit to go along with it. That was one of the best birthdays I ever had.
