BUS help

With Intel CPUs I know the Frontside BUS is the BUS thats connects the CPU to the Northbridge and the Main Memory to the Northbridge and AGP Slots to the Northbridge.

But the BUS that goes from the Northbridge to the Southbridge is this called the Backside BUS???

Found this on Wikipedia...

Traditionally this interface between northbridge and southbridge was simply the PCI bus, but since this created a performance bottleneck, most current chipsets use a different (often proprietary) interface with higher performance

I'd look into the board(s) in question and see if they make any mentioning of whatever they might call the bus.

All older boards used the PCI bus to connect the North to South Bridge.
On newer boards AMD uses Hypertransport lanes, plus I think with the SB710 and above AMD has a direct link from the CPU to the Southbridge bypassing the Northbridge if needed and Intel like with the socket 1156 has no two separate North/southbridges.

thanks but

Thank you I am now understanding a little more about Hypertransport.

My Motherboard has
Northbridge Chipset A.M.D 780G
Southbridge Chipset A.M.D SB700

And the Socket is AM 2. +

And the Board has Hypertransport 3.0

So am I right that my CPU has Hypertransport Lines going from the CPU to the Northbridge directl???

Yes

To add to that. The Memory Controller is on the processor, so the processor bypasses the northbridge to read and write to the memory.

You told me that my CPU has a Hypertransport link going from the CPU to the Northbrigde and you are helping me understand how it works.

My Socket is AM 2 +
My CPU is AMD Athlon 64 x 2. L3 2. MB
My Northbrigde is AMD 78 G
My Southbridge is AMD SB700

Now like you told me the CPU goes right to Main Memory and bypasses Northbridge.

But my CPU has Hypertransport Line going right to Northbrigde from CPU.

So would I be right that my Northbridge has Hypertransport Lines going right to Soutbridge?????

And if my CPU has L3 on it does my CPU still have L1. and L2. on it???

A Athlon 64 only has L1 and L2 cache. depending on which one they have 128k of L1 each core and 512k or 1mb. each core L2.

The Phenom has L3 cache.

1. Right, the Memory Controller is on the processor, it bypasses the northbridge to access the memory. Faster!

2. Right. there are hypertransport links from the CPU to the northbridge. The northbridge controls the PCIe lanes. The southbridge controls the IDE/SATA/USB and so on.

3.

win 7. help

The post is for StrangleHold if you can help me.

I want to get win 7. 64 Bit but my programs are for win xp 32 Bit.

Will I be able to install it onto win 7. they say it has 32 Bit Mode how do I activate it??

I havent had to much problem installing stuff on windows 7. If you do you can try right clicking on the exe. and pick run in compatibility mode.

thanks but

Thanks StrangleHold for all the help.

But I have to ask one thing?

I have Bad Eye Site what is your Avater Photo of???

Is it Lilith
