Business computer build

So, no one with any knowledge on setting up Raid 1? I'm thinking it's not such a hot idea to use it on a build without some good guidance. I'll see if I can find something elsewhere on the net. Anyway, thanks for the ideas.

RAID 1 is easy but may not be practical, it also is not a back up solution. It is a redundancy solution.

So you guys seem to be saying that the better processor is more important than a lot of memory. I was under the impression that lots of memory was high on the list for the number of programs I run at one time and the memory intensive applications I use. 4 gb seems rather small these days. I would have thought the reverse.

You point to graphic-intense applications, which makes memory within the GPU of greater importance, relatively.

RAID 10 (or 1-0) allows both striping and mirroring, but the cost in hard drives may not make it practical, not to mention the RAID card. Such would give both redundancy (insurance against data loss) and performance. But it's expensive. Only you can weigh its cost-benefit ratio.

Such a RAID setup would function very well with a VM setup, too, allowing both Linux/FOSS and the other OS. (I used to be a GIS tech, so I know sometimes the harlot's cost is necessary).

It appears to me many giving suggestions are gamers, judging by the bias towards processors and hi-wattage power units. I go for balancing energy-efficiency with performance, hence I cannot recommend a Fermi. I run a Shuttle KPC with e8400 at present. I used to be a gamer and the fans in my SOHO created a breeze in the room! LOL!
