buying a card for flashing

not all cards flash, as far as i know, the x800gt0, x800gt0^2, x850pro, and a few other x800 series cards might be able to flash to x850xt pe, but not all.

Possibly, but you have to remember that flashing isnt a guarantee, and that the card you get may not work with a 6600's bios.

not all do, mine doesn't. google harder :) well if you get a 6200 make sure it is NOT this one(mine:o ). that one cannot be unlocked to 8 pipes. a guide for the older, unlockable pny

If you read the above posts, you'll see that i was corrected.
 
X800Pro ViVo can be unlocked to the specs of a X800XT if they have the same core, they usually have the same memory chips too.

cannot tell. that card LOOKS like mine, but if we know the core, or show me a picture of the box, we can tell for sure.

there was a guide in cpu magazine about the x800gto squared being unlocked also.

Yes, the Sapphire X800GTO² is known for being unlockable but they aren't always that easy to get a hold of and I've heard complaints about them being noisy.
 
Even the same cards from the same brand can vary in unlocking. For example, my x850pro didn't unlock, even though many others made by the same brand did.
 
I asked the seller if he can show me a picture of the box and if he knows the core.

Ill post when ill get the infos.
