Buying a Game on Steam or Not

Should I buy Warband on Steam, or will it actually matter? Can i access all of the various mods etc without playing it through Steam? Thanks

Doesn't really matter, the only difference between steam copy and a normal copy is you don't have the physical media in your hand when you buy with steam. Everything in the game will be in the steam version as well. So its your call on what you want to do, I myself prefer physical copies so I don't buy a ton of games through steam.

I wouldn't, just because of price.

I'm not sure of game prices over there, but here, Warband on Steam is £20, you can get the collectors edition for £9. If it is different over there, get it on Steam, you can do everything that you can on the physical version

I like physical copies, too. Kinda like buying MP3s vs a CD. It's just not the same. You don't feel like you own it.

Agreed.

I'm always hesistant to buy a digital copy, just because I prefer a physical copy.

Oh, and about buying mp3's off of iTunes or some equivalent, why do they not give us the choice to download WAVs? or FLACs?

Also if you buy it off Steam you can't resell it. However I still prefer it just because it's convenient and the updates are automatic.

I must say, for ease of install (i'm always losing physical disks) i prefer steam. :o

Also i seem to remember, you can register your physical copy on steam anyway, don't quote me on that though lol

I don't understand people's issue with Steam. Except for some prices are awful, it is an excellent service. If you manage to pick up a game for a few £/$/€, which you regularly can on some excellent games because of the weekend/midweek deals, so what that you can't sell it? You wouldn't be able to sell a copy for the same price anyway, even if you did, you are getting back maybe a couple of <currency>

If I want something to resell I get it for PS3. I like steam for their deals and stuff I know I'm going to be playing for sometime. Also some games are just better experienced on a PC.

My general rule is action/adventure/racing/sports is for PS3. RPG, RTS, FPS is for PC.

I've got games piled up since the 80's for PC and console. I kinda like that Steam keeps my shelves a little less full. The truth is a games value is way less a year or two after release. If you don't buy and sell in the first year it's just about not worth it.

I'm a huge support of steam...if the prices are right. I definitely wouldn't spend more to get a game on steam but if its the same price, I'd go for steam. But to be completely honest, I think a vast majority of my games from steam were bought on sale (and they tend to have pretty good sales). I also like having digital copies of my games. It may take longer to install (if you don't have a backup) but just let it go over night. And you never have to worry about keeping track of serial numbers and discs.

In terms of accessing mods and such, the steam copy of the game should be the same as the physical copy.

Steam is great, but they are becoming a monopoly. Mostly due to the lack of other good services. GFWL is crappy, I don't want my computer to be an xbox. Also has no community or anything like that. Same goes for D2D, etc etc.

With warband, you can also download it directly from Taleworlds and use your key from Steam to activate it... If you want to of course, theres no real need since the mods work the same on either version...

Warband is $30 on Steam and in store, so unless it goes on sale soon I'd prefer to have a hard copy. I don't mind Steam and I will definitely purchase games from it, but only if they are on sale. Thanks for the input guys.
