Buying a laptop

Hello I'm new to the site, looks like a great place...
As the topic indicates, I need to buy a laptop.
My budget will be around 750£(GBP). That is around 1300$(USD).
It really needs to be a gaming PC, that i will use for studies to.
I am really also unsure about using AMD or Intel; what is pro and con?
I've got XP Home, so it would be a waste to buy a new OS with it.
Weight can be in the high end, as I really don't care if that makes it any better. the same goes for the size.

i am assuming you are moving away to college and want to play games along with studying. what games are you playing?

if we are talking about the mobile processors, either the turion or the pentium M would be fine. the pentium m seems to be leading the way mobile processors. very battery efficient. are you looking for long battery life?

i wouldn't suggest a desktop processor for a laptop unless you want to have an hour worth of battery life.

laptops come with an OS installed.

what size monitor do you prefer?

I'm not moving away per se: Just spending a lot of time in transport.
The battery life is not so much a problem, I have good access to power... Only need around 2 hours i think... I like big monitors, as long as the video card is okay... But a inch i don't know... I can just say i like a okay big screen, I just don't know what is good for gaming...
I found that most people say that laptops are hard to find if they is to be okay gaming machines, not that the spec. need anything.

Also: How easy is it to upgrade different parts of a laptop?

i have a dell inspiron 9100 and an inspiron 600m. i can completely dis-assemble the entire thing in less than 10 minutes.

Thats fast!
Well i fogot too include what games i'm playing;
The Sims
Rome Total War (And the likes)
Battlefield 2 (Not yet, but thats what i need the laptop for :P )
Dawn of War (And the likes)
Ravenshield (And the likes)
So I need a pc that can run fast, but still have good grafic...

go for pentium m for shure, the 2.0ghz are quite reasonable for gaming and are great for battery life. it is not worth the extra to upgrade to the pm 2.1 or 2.2

I'd go with the dell I9300 with your budget, idk what coupons are out there at the moment, but chances are alan will get u set up with a nice one, i just don't really have the time right now.

I have a dell inspiron 9300. I game on it and it works great. It's the one in my sig. It has a 17 inch screen and one of the best graphics card (not the best but close).
I love it. I got it for $1206 USD shipped with a free printer (includes cable price too).
I recommend it and also listen to alan, he really knows what he is talking about. He is the one who hooked me up with mine.
