Buying a new computer...which processor?

I'm new to the forums and wanted some feed back. I'm looking to buy a new HP Pavillion. Basically I'm trying to decide between the d5200t with the Q9650 and the m9600t with the i7-940. I can upgrade the Q9650 from 2.63 Ghz to a 3.00 GHz for $100 and to upgrade the i7-940 from 2.63 to 2.83 it's $400. Is it really worth it?

The Quad processor upgrade of 3.7ghz for $100 isnt a terrible deal but the i7 upgrade for $400 seems way too steep. i7 is the latest and greatest but the core 2 quads are still plenty fast and will be for a good while. i7 is probably your best bet if your not tight on cash but don't be afraid of the core 2 quads. I have the next steps down from the core 2 quad, which is the core 2 duo and I have confidence in my pc for atleast till the end of the year or so.
 
Thanks Konsole. I think I'm gonna go with the Quad processor for now. It's more within my budget and for what I do (no high intensity games, web surfing), I don't need the best and fastest. Thanks for your feedback
