Buying a new computer.

Hi!

Soon in the near few months I'm going to buy a new computer worth around 3000$ or 30000kr, Swedish currency, and my question is what should I actually obtain?

I've been examine the asus socket AM2+ ATX AMB 790FX as my first choice of many motherboards - but still I feel that it's a good idea to ask others about this.

I've also been examine the asus GeForce 9800GX2 1024MB but also I wounder if the motherboard can handle SLI with two cards, since I've not seen any information about the asus AM2+ motherboard can handle it.

As RAM the OCZ Platinum EB XTC 2048MHZ [8-8-8-24] DDR3 is on my mind but also I'm very undeceviable about if I actually should really use it as my primal choice of RAM since there others thats just as good but abit slower and with no warrant.

The AMD Phenom Quad 9600 2,3 GHZ/4mb socket AMB2+ does give me the good chill of excitement but also isnt this really something that's needed for 'THEE' gaming computer?

So what's your advice to what I 'need' to create an ûber-gaming computer?

Are you building this computer, or buying one pre-built?

You can run the 9800GX2 on any motherboard. If you want to run two for Quad-SLi, get a 780i, or 790i motherboard. If you're into overclocking, get the QX9650 processor. If not, get the Q9450. Intel processors are better than what AMD has to offer, at the moment.

That is one hell of a budget :) is it really that much swedish kroner? It is "only" 15000 danish kroner.

Do you need a monitor or operating system? I've got a build sitting in my newegg wishlist if you dont :P

Well actually you're right if you multiply 3000$ with 7 you get around 21000kr but since I multiply it with 10 it's 30000 since thats my budget. I allways assemble my new computers ^^.

I rather use the intel or athlon, athlon actually is what I've used the last 4-5 years without any problems so athlon is to my liking.

I wounder if there's a list of what I should buy? I know that I can make one myself but I don't have the know how about the thousands tiny details about the compability of each component.

Whats the statics between athlon and intel at this current date? Athlon still better or?

So whats the real different between 780i and 790i except that 790i are newer then the former? The Q9450 except that it has 2,66 GHZ clock frequenzy and fronside bus 1333MHZ plus L2 cache 12288KB - in regards to that what can it offer then the two other motherboards can't?

Intel's current processors are much better than the Athlon series.

Answer the following questions, then I'll create your list. :)

Do you plan to overclock the CPU?

Now, or in the future, are you interested in running Quad SLi with the 9800GX2? You would need two 9800GX2s for that setup.

Answering the questions above will help us find a motherboard and CPU that would best fit your needs.

The 780i uses DDR2 memory, whereas the 790i uses DDR3. That's the main difference between the two.

The Q9450 except that it has 2,66 GHZ clock frequenzy and fronside bus 1333MHZ plus L2 cache 12MB - in regards to that what can it offer then the two other motherboards can't?

I'm not sure what you mean, but the Q9450 would be a good choice if you don't plan on overclocking the CPU.

Well, been looking at hardware.info and found it to be interesting stuff you've mentioned since it viped the other motherboards with ease.

Anyway in revulsion to that what I've seen so far my answer to your question is:

No, no plan to overclock even if I find it somewhat intriguing.

Yes, im very interesting in quad sli with dual 9800GX2.

That and alot of Ram :P.

I'm using an American website for your reference. If the site you plan on purchasing from is in English, please provide a link.

CPU: Q9450. $379.99 Or E8400. $189.99

Heatsink/Fan: Zalman 9700. $64.99

Motherboard: 780i. $259.99. I'd like to give you the 790i with DDR3 memory, but DDR3 is way too expensive. 4GB DDR3 1800 sets are in the $700 range.

Memory: Ballistix Tracers. Get two for a total of 4GB. $160

Hard Drive 1: 150GB Raptor. $174.99. Install your OS, games and programs on this drive.

Hard Drive 2: Seagate 500GB. 134.99 Use this drive for additional storage.

PSU: Zigmatek 1000W. $269. It's made by Channelwell (a good manufacturer) and on the Quad-SLi certified list.

OS: Vista Ultimate x64. $169.99. You have to run Vista in order to run Quad-SLi. The 64 bit OS is necessary to use 4GB of RAM.

In USD, with two 9800GX2s, that's roughly $2,800. You still need a case and DVD burner. All the items above are compatible, so if you can find them, that's what I would recommend.

Awsome! Yeah, I thought that too: why not buy more DDR2 instead of DDR3 since, as I suspected, it isnt 100% compatible and used 100% in normal computers.

I've been looking on compontents like a casing and DVD-burner and such and I've found my favs right away at the site http://www.hardware.info/ which shows you a graph on each and every computer component.

DDR3 = For idiot rich people... More technical cons below :) :

1) Expensive, nuff said.
2) Latencies are too high to see a big percentage increase over DDR2
3) Not a widely used standard
4) DDR3 motherboards are extremely expensive...

DDR3 is too expensive at the moment. I'm looking forward to owning some DDR3 2000 when the prices drop. :D
