Wasn't sure if i should post this in here but seeing as this is the monitor section it only makes sense. Any way i am looking into getting a new Monitor/TV for my current setup, (see sig). I want to use it as a Monitor for my rig, and a TV for my PS3 (and possibly cable later). I just needed a few questions answered.

Im new to the whole Monitor/TV thing so bare with me. Which is better DLP, LCD, Plasma, any other types i forgot...? I know i want something with 1080p. I want it at least 32" or bigger, but i also don't want to skimp on quality or lifespan just for size. Although i want as big as i can get for around 900-1500 dollars (i know its a wide range, but i just want some recommendations).

Also sense i don't know anything about TV/Monitors if i need a tuner or something that would be another big help!

Thanks for your time!!!

Ok, well ill give you a brief explantion of the different types...
Plasma, know was the "OMG the best tv there is" by the average person. Its really not that great. Its a gas, you cant refill it, so after 3-5 years it has lost 50% or its brightness. There goes all that money, after 10 years of use its done.

LCD: Best IMO, i have a SONY 60' and its is LCD all i have to do is replace the bulb every 3 years, and BAM just like new, just like i bought it...I would get LCD because its cheaper, and will last longer.

DLP: Tons of millions of mirrors moving,i never liked this design, so thats DLP, its projection TV. Older technology.

If i have missed any info, please correct me. Its been away since ive lookd at tv info.

1080p i would definatly get, i would look for something around 37' to 42', with 1080p on that size it will be stunning. My 60' looks amazing, but because of the size it won't be as good as a smaller screen.

Ill edit later, im downloading atm...slow internet.

I have a 40" Samsung LCD In my room i think its amazeing, stunning quality aswell!

Go with LCD around a 30 to a 50 inch would look nice and would be nice to watch also ;)

So from the sounds of it LCD is the way to go. I dont want out dated tech and i dont want something that i cant replace if something goes wrong (IE gas with plasma). So that raises another question, what brand should i go with? top brands ive seen are Samsung, LG, Sony, and Panasonic. Ive never dealed with any of these brands, with monitors/TVs at least. I have a 22" hanns-g monitor that says its HDCP but when i hook up my PS3 too it, well ill just leave it at FAIL. So id like to avoid another situation like that. Id like it to have a DVI port, or i could use a DVI-HDMI cord i assume for my monitor. Any way im getting off topic, BRANDS. Which ones should i look into or avoid?

LCD is the way to go hands down. I have a sylvania 42" and love it. Picture is amazing AND it even has VGA+sound plugs on it for easy pc hook-up. My brother has a DLP and it has a great picture but seems to need a new bulb every other year or so at $200 a pop!

Brands...

I personally would go in this order, it also depends on what size you want, because different brand tend to "specialize" in certina sizes...
E.G. Mitsubishi=huge//LG=small/med. the list goes on.

For the 32' to 46' range i would go LG, Samsung, Sony, Vizio. Those are some i would recommend.

Well i think i settled on the TV im going to get this one, it seems to be highly rated.

My next set of questions now are: If i use a DVI to VGA converter will it lower picture quality(talking about my computer being hooked up to this bad boy)? If so i should just use the DVI to HDMI cord i already have correct(I know id still have to use my computer speakers but hey i have 5.1 surround sound so i was going to use them any way :P )? The sound system i have is fairly old but hasnt let me down yet, sense im going to use it with my PS3 also (and possibly cable later), is there a box i can get so i can localize all the audio inputs too my speakers(it uses a 3jack imput on my computer orange green and black).

Im sure ill think of more questions soon :P

Thanks for the help!!!

Great choice. Samsungs are some of the best LCD's in the business.

I would go with HDMI but VGA is capable. HDMI is capable of carrying a 5.1 single along with the video. That said someone would have to confirm if the GTX260 is capable of audio passthrough though. If it is then you would only have to run an HDMI to your TV then an optical cable from your TV to your surround system.

I need some more info on the sound system you have. The model or what type of inputs it has would help.

This is basically the speaker setup i have(well as close as i can get, its 4 or 5 years old). The exceptions are mine doesnt have a volume control like that, its on the front right speaker and the audio jacks arnt detachable on mine.

{The GTX260 does have audio passthrough, i just need to locate the little two pin cord for it. Never bothered to put it in because i didnt think id need it >.>} Just got done hooking this up so its of no concern any more! Thank you for the help once again!!!

Ok, well it is possible to have multiple sources using that speaker system but after buying three switches/selectors and all the wiring you would be near 200 bucks. I think your best bet right now is to save up and buy a cheap Home Theatre in a box. (HTIB) Here is a Sony http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882105291. It is the cheapest I could find (249.99) that has alot of Inputs and would be a big upgrade from what you have now. You would be able to hook all your stuff up with HDMI as it has 3 HDMI inputs and also 2 optical inputs as well. It is really your best bet man.

Ill keep that in mind, for now i will stick with using these speakers just for my computer and use another set for the PS3 (ghetto i know, but buying one thing at a time). I eventually do want to upgrade the a htib because of sound quality and the ability to have all my audio in one source.

Thanks again for the input/information!!!

PS: Antec 1200 case was a great choice, using it too :D just read your sig reactor.

I actually decided on this TV. After reading the reviews the 1egg review was because he got a broken one, and the three egg was because a piece was faulty and he didnt want to wait 2 weeks for repair (understandable but imo not a reason to down a rating). And hey 50 bucks more for 3" ill do that :D

Again thanks for all the help every one!!!
