Buying a new PC

hi there,
i want to buy a new computer that would be ideal for music creation, and there are a few issues that i dont understand entierly, maybe u guys can help...

first is the motherboard - if i want to use a q6600 CPU, then what motherboard will be optimal for me if i want it to support at least 1 PCI slot and a few PCI-E. now i dont want to go crazy with the budget, but a board that is 'standard" perhaps.
another thing is the differences between P35 to P41/45, how important is these differences?
lastly is the memory speed - how much better can my PC can go with a 1000MHZ RAM comparing to a 800MHZ ram? its double the price (the 1000mhz) so does it justifies it?

well there is not actually a noticeable differnce between the ram being 800 mhz and 1000 mhz

and you probably wont need a very strong computer for music creation.
 
if the price is doubled just buy 2pcs of that 800mhz ,yes you will be needing RAMS for your music creations, is this like for studio recordings? coz it really depends on what sofware you'll gonna be using and what a hardware your going to be connecting to your PC
 
the P41/45 is a newer chipset than the P35, but if you're building a non-gaming rig, you won't need top of the line... the P45 is much better for overclocking your cpu
a q6600 and a nive motherboard with built in graphics would probably suffice, as i'm assuming you won't be using this to game, or do anything graphics heavy (i'd also suggest a separate sound card of course)...
the ddr 800 will suffice for a q6600, the price is alot more attractive too...

and what exactly are you doing? will you be plugging multiple tracks into your computer like a recording studio? or editing/mixing?
 
My idea would be to build one over buy it seems most computers brought from stores are hugely overprice
 
Btw I would second that motion to build rather than buy! I just put mine together for about $750, I had bought it from the store it would have cost me easily another $150-200 dollars... (granted I already had an OS at home, but still huge savings overall)
 
thank you very much for the reply!! i will use my computer for programs like cubase/protools ext. using many many VST's plugins. i've been doing this for many years already but many times i was exceeding my computer capabilities so it became very slugish, so im looking for a pc that can handle my needs. i know i need lots of RAM for this, though i heard many stories that there are sometimes problems with windows recognizing more than 3.25MB of ram. so should i buy just 3gb of ram 800MHZ or should i go for 4GB ram?
this computer will not be for gaming anyway, but i do need a graphic card to support upto 3 monitors... any suggestions which card i should buy?
