Buying a New Video Card

Hi everyone (first post!)

OK I'm looking to buy a new graphics card for my pc, (AMD Athalon 64 4.2 dualcore 2gig ram...) I've never really looked into graphics cards before so I have very little knowledge in the way of knowing what is a good graphics card and which are complete trash.... :( so what I want to know is if Someone can recommend a reasonable graphics card for roughly £40.00 ($80.00) or less it needs to be able to handle HD Video (and have HD-Out) and play less hardware intensive games like Teeworlds or Frozen Bubble (you get the idea :P) my monitor has a resolution of 1680x1050 (does that make any difference? lol)

Thanks in advance!

well my dad has a Nvidia 8500 it is very thin (for the small desk top comps they sue in offices) and it can handle quite a few stuff like team fortress 2 to some extent

it only costs 25 pounds from amazon.co.uk

but as your with amd i guess you will be wanting a ati card sorry cant help you there mate

well currently it has a Nvidia Geforce 7050 GF7050-M2 which came with the pc so im not really to fussed who makes the card:D as long as it does the job

8500 will do great for you then mate it will run all your want (runs half life 2 and all valve games like half life 2 fine)

I was just looking at a 8500 on eBay actually:D can anyone explain how a 8500 256mb would be better than a 8500 1024mb? would there be a considerable difference?

thanks so far!

No, don't spend more money on the 1GB version, unless the price is only a few dollars difference.

what do you intend do do with the card? Light gaming? Extreme gaming?

what is your budget and what Slot does your motherboard have?

if you dont know what slot, find out with everest home edition what mobo you have.

you might need a new Power supply if you upgrade to a gfx card btw just incase you didnt know :)
