Buying a second hand computer...

My friend is upgrading his computer and has probed me with the intent of selling me his rig. I'm not a real whiz with computers, so what should I ask him to tell me about the rig?

If someone could come up with a list of items that would factor into the price like gfx card, processor, and any other bits that I might be missing I would really appreciate it. Especially since I want to save as much green as a I can while giving him a fair price for his old rig.

What kind of processor

Amount of Ram

What size Power Supply

What OS is it running

Any known problems such as powering down, blue screens, freezing

What kind of graphics

Or if it is a major name such as hp get the model number and look it up along with posting it on here

ty

XPS 600 (bought in 2005)
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40GHz
XP Home Edition
NVIDIA GeForce 6800
2 GB Ram
650 Watt power supply

He also wants to sell me a Dell 17' LCD, any ideas as to how much that is worth?

I'd say $300.00 max.

He's gonna freak because he probably paid like $1500.00 for it.

Hey, it's old tech. You could build one with the better specs for that much,
with newer components.

he told me to **** off, saying that his case was worth 100 bucks alone

i was thinking of offering him 450, is that a bit too much?
he said he'd throw in his speakers, and any software i wanted if i upped my offer:confused:

Nah man your better off looking else. The software he is more than likely going to pirate and get for free. $450 is way to much for that system, for not much more you could build a MUCH better pc

Hey guys,

Desperately want to find some kind of a computer but alas my funds are quite low.

Anyone know of somewhere in Munich that sells 2nd hand computers? And I'm not talking Commadore 64 here, something quite decent.

Any advice would be great. Thanks a million guys!

Dudet start your own thread, dont hijack this guys.

he got it 2005

i guess he's just not willing to part with something he paid like 2g's for...

oh well, i'll probably link him to this thread if he doesn't change his mind

He may have paid that for it but it's not worth that today. It's a sad fact that like anything it decreases in value. It's a 4 year old OEM computer don't be the sucker that over pays for it. If you really want to get a good used computer check out http://www.hcditrading.com they sell off lease Dell computers. You can get a Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz, 1024MB of DDR2 RAM, 160GB SATA Hard Drive with XP installed for $244.95 + shipping. You can even add a 1 year or 2 year warrenty. I know the specs are a little lower then your friends but it's also $200 cheaper. BTW I don't have any relationship with HCDI Trading I just get alot of used computers from them and have had a lot of happy customers.
