Buying an lcd.

I have alwase had crt's but They are starting to take up too much space on my desk. So I decided to get an lcd. But I have a couple of questions.

I am looking for something cheap that I can play games with and has as much veiwing area of a 17ingh crt.

1.Lcd or Plasma?
2.what refreshrate/response time?
3.Is it true a 15inch lcd is the same as a 17crt?

Feel free to inform me of anything I should know when buying lcds, thanks.

1. Do they even have samll Plasma screens. I could be wrong but I thought those where only the larger ones...

2. LCD's don't use refreash rates. However, you want a very small responce time or you get smearing. I'd say at least 12ms. I have an 8ms and its great.

3. That is correct. I guess there's just more viewing area(plus being flat) EH, I'm not really sure, but my 15" LCD didn't look all that much smaller than my old 17" CRT. My new 17" LCD looks HUGE :D

thats what i was gonna say too, i think those are only in tvs..

and i read somwhere (dont ask where, i dont remember) that the average lcd is around 2" bigger in viewing space than a crt
 
I have been looking around and 8ms let alone 12 ms arnt availible. How well would 16ms be in games?
