Buying my own server?

I'm thinking of possibily buying my own server instead of this continuois renting.

I need moreinfo on it first, anu good links for info? How much am I looking at spending for a decent server?(a low-mid end, but upgradable for later on).

Also am I going to have to get a better internet connection for it? or how exactly does it go. Again links, I'm considering this and want to research all I can before getting into it. Thanks.

Also what specs should I be looking for in a server? cpu.ram and all of that.

I need it to support php and mysql, but I would assume that any server would support it as long as I install it, correct?

what are you planning on running off it? How busy do you expect it to be? What is the current upload/download limit of your ISP?

if it's a website that isn't all that active, you could run it off an old desktop with your current connection. If it's google.com, you're going to want your own fiber line and some tower rack servers.

if it's a gaming server, then I would look at a 1 to 1.5 Ghz chip, 4 gig of ram and whatever size hd you need. You might have to pay extra for more bandwidth tho

its gonna be fairly expensive. depending on wat ur using it for apple makes nice servers. but it might not fit ur needs.

It'll be for websites. I have 5mbps down, 100k up i think it is maybe 150k up and unlimited bandwith.

How well would this suite? How about a T1 line? 1.5mpbs up and down? it'll be a little slower down which wont be as good for my regual PC, but if it'll mke my server run well enough I'm good with it, and it will only cost me another 16$ bucks a month added on.

That is not enough if you want to host anything larger than a few pictures. When hosting its the upload speed that matters most.

A T1 will be a very good choice, it wont be able to handle lots of traffic but will be suitable if your making some sort of a personal website with low traffic.
