Hello I just turned 18 and have 600 bucks saved up. I am starting college in the spring [march] and I need a lab top for college along with my gaming desires. I plan to spend anywhere from 600 to 1000 bucks. I play crisis and world of war craft so i definitely need a good video card. I usually buy my technology from best buy because of the warrants and I'm always skeptical about using new egg because of the crap warranty's [from what i hear]. I was thinking about
Gateway - FX Edition Laptop with Intel® Centrino® 2 Processor Technology

The video card and lab top overall seems insane but i hear alto of people on forums saying Gateway is crap and stuff. Please help!

Also i see that this labtop was made in december of 08.. should i wait a little longer and probably a better labtop for the same price will be out by chrismas?
and if u have time can u compare the labtop of theyre to Gateway® P-7805u FX Edition THANKS!

I have Samsung Q320:

A 1366 x 768 HD resolution screen is sharp and clear. An LED-backlit LCD screen makes everything you view bright and beautiful. And the 13.4" screen gives you plenty of room to work, surf the internet or check your email without straining your eyes. SRS sound gives you HD audio to match the HD images. And performance is fast and powerful, with a state-of-the-art Intel® Core 2 Duo processor and roomy 320 GB hard drive.

Life moves fast, so you don’t want to wonder if your notebook can handle a demanding workload. The Q320 has plenty of room for all of your applications with 320 GB of storage. Plus, you'll enjoy a quick system boot-up, fast access to stored information, a 20% increase in battery life and better system ruggedness. With the Q320 notebook, the possibilities are endless.

I agree with Mj79,

ASUS makes nice products, and the one he suggested seems like a good deal. My friend has a Gateway and I haven't been happy with the build quality or issues he's been having 2 months into owning it. If you want gaming performance for things like Crysis, you should expect to spend around $1k... WoW is not an issue I can run it on my MacBook Pro which only has a 9400M graphics chip, if you get a laptop that can handle Cyrsis you shouldn't have to worry about any other games for at least a few years.

If you want to look into other brands, here's somethings i'd aim for:
nVidia 200m series chip or the ATI equivalent
2-4GB DDR3 (can always be upgraded to 4GB for about $70)
LED Backlit Display
Core2Duo processor 2.0Ghz+
1066Mhz+ FSB
512MB+ VRAM
7200RPM HD

You should be able to find all that stuff for around $1k, and it will be more than strong enough to play Crysis and any other games you throw at it for the next few years.

Your best bet for gaming is to stick with desktops rather than laptops they arent really made for gaming. I have an Sony Vaio VGN FW31e laptop every think you need for college. You can choose vista or xp. Mine as the buggie vista

Eh that's not really true. Laptops won't perform as well as a desktop, but they are hardly incapable or enjoyable gaming experiences. If he has the money then by all means get a gaming desktop, but in that case get yourself a gaming laptop too... why not be able to play games anywhere in your home instead of just at a desk.

I regularly play games on my laptop even when I'm home, sometimes I like be able to watch a little TV while I'm playing. I enjoy great frame rates, good quality graphics all while comfortably sitting on my couch... I can even put my feet on the coffee table if I feel like really kicking back :good:
