Hi Guys and Girls.

I am going to save money for a while now.
and i wonder how much better will a 2000$ computer be in 14 months? from a scale from 1-10. lets say the today 2000$ computer gets 6 in score what will a new 2000$ computer be in 14 months?

Its supposed to be a gaming computer

in 14 months prob like a 7 relative to what is out at the time, the hardware advances faster than the software normally.

but building your own 2k buck computer it could be maxing games then too built now.

You could get caught in a never-ending cycle thinking like that though. What I mean is, hardware and software is always getting better, so sure, you can say "I'll do it in 14 months when some hardware has improved." But then in 14 months, you'll be like, "Yeah, but in another 14 months it will be even better!" :P:eek:

I'll bet $2000 will build one heck of a computer either way. What are you planning on doing with it? (Just curious).

Oh...you know, I just re-read your post, and I'm just now realizing you're waiting 14 months because that's the time in which you plan to save the money? Okay then, I guess the whole first part of my post is irrelevant. But I'll leave it anyway, so we can all laugh at me for being an English professor with horrible reading comprehension.

To answer your question, yeah, I'd say it'd be maybe a 7 or 8.

X79 has just been released by Intel as the high performance socket (replacing X58) and I expect 14 months is too short a time for something else to come along. So in answer to your question, there won't be much change in terms of platform performance.

It's a slightly different story with GPU's though. We're about to see the release of the next gen Radeon 7xxx series and Nvidia will be bringing out the 600 series later in 2012.

Don't forget the Tick-Tock. It's been a year since sandy, so now we have sb-e and ivy is just around the corner, so in 14 months we should have or be within a month of whatever they're planning next. but as far as gamin ivy would be better than sb-e.
