buzzing/crackling sound

Hi there,
Unfortunately I don’t know much about computers and seem to have a slight problem with my speaker sound. There seems to be a low buzzing and crackling noise always coming from the speakers when there on, same with the head phones. If I turn the volume right down to zero, the buzzing and crackling sound still happens, but when I press mute on the key board, it stops all together. I have Intel audio studio running and have played around with different settings but there is no difference.
Any advice would be appreciated,
Thanks in advance,
Colm

That's a typical speaker/amplifier related problem there provided there isn't any problem with the audio jack for onboard or installed expansion card? A loose strand of wire inside a plug can also cause a problem as well as a speaker set not having adequate shielding.

Most of time however you are simply looking at a budget amp making the usual humming sound that can drive you up the wall. Going with a new set of speakers with a degree of quality will end up being the solution for this.

It has nothing to do with the speakers, as he said, it happens with headphones too. Is this laptop connected to the mains power via the power pack? If so, unplug it and see if the problem remains. This is a signal coming directly from the amp. I would update your audio drivers first.

As I stated earlier this is typical of an speaker/amplifier related problem IF! do you comprehend the word IF? there is no other problem like a bad mini jack especially since this problem persists with head phones too.

The problems with preinstalled OSs is often the need to remove all sound drvers/software first and go for an update at the support site that will likely see a fix for a know problem. Their troubleshooting faq section may reveal a patch provided this is not simply a cold solder point or bad jack you have there. If that turns out to be the problem then you would have to consider adding an expansion card in.
