Ok, the Mesh tower failed recently and there is quite a high cost to repair, my Dad has had the idea I use the spare IDE cables etc to wire up his system drive to my PC, however, being a system drive I have reservations. Also, we have programs like Norton, Visio, DNS 9, these all allow only 1 licence per PC, would we have to buy all new licences to use the products legally? Also, would there by any issues running an old system drive with Windows & drivers with the current system drive which also has WIndows and drivers?

Paul,

You won't be able to boot from the drive, but you could certinally stick another drive in there. Windows/your computer could care less what's already on it.

he wont b e able to boot from the drive because the drive and windows thats installed on it came from another pc so when you boot from it while in a different pc then windows wont recognize the chipset and other hardware configurations (mainly the motherboard)...unless of course its the same model and brand board...windows way of assuring that no illegal windows are installed and used on multiple pcs
