ok so i just finished fixing my pc...

Amd 64 3000+
nvidia 6200 128mb
1gb ram

and when i took my pc to a lan the guy put some settinngs and i got over 100fps! but whne i went back home am capped at 100fps when i was able to have it at 280fps. please help. i tried fps_max

Apparently not many of you play CS then. The max FPS rate you can get in CS is 100, however, it is possible to achieve higher than that. All that does is make the crosshair smoother. After 100 FPS, the models and gameplay doesn't smooth out, but your accuracy increases because of the crosshair changes. If you have 100 FPS, don't worry, it's fine, it won't read more than 100 anyway. To check the FPS your capable of running, you type refreshrate (or something like that) into the console. I'll find out and let you know.

use the command "developer 1" then "fps_max 500"

that should do it.

i do however warn you that when fps changes, so does your sensitivity. you can do it to test how many fps you are capable of but don't leave developer on.

I Have a new mission, My mission, is to have correct spelling in all of my posts!
He he, i think you failed flame, just take a look at post #9, i count 3 spelling mistakes and about 4 grammar mistakes. LOL

Are you joking? There is a huge difference between 50 and 100. It's so easy to tell. With CS, there are big differences from 0 to 100 FPS, but after that, CS doesn't use any more FPS. It just makes the crosshair a bit smoother when recoiling. I've done tests so I would know.

no i'm not joking, once you starting passing 50fps the human eye cant see the difference. Well the actual figure is more in the range of top 30's.

I can tell, it's easier to shoot and kill. If you play CS a lot you notice. I used to play CS for 3-5 hours a day (competitively) so after awhile you begin to notice. Movements are smoother, when you start shooting it doesn't lag, when you run through smoke, you don't lag. Stuff like that.

I know im going to get shouted out now but,...... i have a geforce fx5200 128Mb and i play counterstrike condtiion zero quite a lot. The card averages out at around 35 fps in CS on 1024x768 @ 32bit. I go through smoke and shoot and i dont notice any lag, perhaps im not pushing it as far as you are but i agree with apj101. It is a strong, well known fact that the eye doesnt pick up on anythin higher than 30-50 fps. Something about resonance or something, or something about how long an image stays on the eye before it changes to a new one, its the same reason as when your on a roller coaster and it goes bumby you cant really see anything in 100% focus or detail, its all a blur and mish mash of colours and shapes.

I believe cs actually caps it at 120fps, and there are unpublished seetings for achieveing more frames. The one that makes a lot of difference allocates ram from your system... you do it in the game start proprties... add "-heapsize 500000" This allocated 500mb of system ram to aid your video card. It makes things smoother, higher fps etc. But you should only put in 1/3 of your sytem ram into this allocation. forexample 1gb ram ~350000 1.5gb ~500000 or 256 ~new computer..

There are also other commands which help cs load more quickly. The commands being -nojoy (disables cs looking for a joystick) -noipx (disables the ipx protocol of cs). Another command would be -exec file.cfg (to load a cfg file automatically on cs startup. File needs to be in the cs root folder)

Hope it helps guys... There are also other settings like v-sync off, turning town your game resolution and refresh rates up. :) Have fun!

there is no cap to cs. as long as your vsync is off and you have developer on and fps_max 1000 you can get any fps your video card is capable of. a geforce 6800 ultra can pull up to 400 fps looking at a wall but fluctuates when something is taking place. its quite easy to tell between 60 and 100 fps. 100fps gives solid and quicker movements. the reason you want to do fps_max 100 is because the sensitivity is based off of pixels. if your fps fluctuates so does your sensitivity. if you are playing for money or is a pro gamer, you try to keep 100 fps in all situations as well as smoke to keep consistent sensitivity. a lot of professionals such as team3D or complexity even use 800 by 600 to ensure consistent fps even with lower make machines at lans.

hope that sums it up.

edit: cap your fps at 30 and 100. if you can't tell the difference you might want to see an eye doctor.

Thank you alanuofm. I play at 800x600 to ensure it also. I don't play for money, or professionally, but I do play competitively, so keeping a constant FPS rate and sensitivity is quite important. People who don't play competitively don't really notice this difference because it isn't important, but when it's 4v1, 1 enemy is down, and all your teammates except you are dead, it's important. When you play seriously, you start to notice little things, and tweak everything you can to get the best performance.

I'm always adjusting my rates as well, to reduce lag. cl_cmdrate 101, cl_updaterate 101, rate 20000. It also depends on your vid card.
