alright, its messing up. ive been working on a game and I cant make the game start, i cant even get the pre-made games from the program to work. any ideas?

all i get is loading screens

XNA is a PITA in the first place... If you haven't learned much about it and would like to switch to an alternative, IMO something better.

Try DarkBasic

I can do Java, which is pretty much C# without the .NET framework components. If you want to post the code, I will look over it.

its not that the code wont work but its that it cant load the program even with the ones it comes with.

It's not a compile error obviously because it would catch before it ran the program. It has to be something in the logic or your install of Visual C# and the XNA Studio.

If it's just staying at a loading screen, it might be an infinite loop in the load process.

alright, is there anything i can do about that because on my other computer the game works when i try to load it so... would updating or reinstalling it work at all or is it more.

0.o...just no.

Anyway, make sure you have the latest .net framework 3.5. Also make sure you have the latest C# (2008 express) and XNA (3.0). Thats all I can think of off the top of my head at the moment.

Can you run a blank code, IE: New>game project? Or is it just a particular game thats not working?

:D

umm im not too sure about how updated the framework and XNA is so im gonna try that and no it cant run a blank code or any of the games ive made. and i even have a pretty good idea goin for a game too, so when im done with it, im gonna post it online as a download for anyone that wants to try.

HA! What do you know about it?

Your site looks like it was made in Frontpage, I wouldn't expect you to get too much into any form of software development. So, don't desecrate a product until you have actually used it for and know what it can do.

yeah, ive tried dark basic and it just wasnt for me for some reason, im not too sure. it was ok but i do like c# and C++ better. but, if i cant get c# working right, then im probably going to go back to it.

Yeah but with C# and C++, you would be better than fortunate to find libraries to help you develop your game. DarkBasic is meant for game development, so you'll have quite a few libraries made for your cause. Sure you can develop in C++ but something like DarkBasic would just be less time consuming and I recommended it because of that.

I started working on an isometric tile engine for a game idea I had in DarkBasic. I got burned out and eventually just quit working on it. I know what you mean by DarkBasic being kind of clumsy but it can bring an idea to life just like C++, Java, or C#/XNA.

nope, everything is up to date but i still only get a blue loading window of what the game is supposed to be.

Can you build the app then browse to the app's project folder and see if you have an executable file in the bin folder? If so, try the executable rather than running it in the debugger.

alright well now i got the pre made things workin but...(lol) now it's saying that the debug target is missing, for all of my own creations.

Project, Properties, Go to Build and then check the "Output" section at the bottom. Browse for correct directory path. Change it to where your exe is located.

Little high strung are we?

Seriously, trying to compare HTML to C# is like trying to compare a car with an orange. HTML is scripted language, its not software development. It simply is a way of displaying information. There is no compiling, there is no software. So yes, I may consider myself a n00b at software development, but I can write html and php, and dont you forget it. Perhaps if you knew a little bit about html you could see that had my site been made in a WYSIWYG there would be useless xml, tables, other jabber that gets put in. However, whilst it might not be perfect. My html is several hundred times more efficient, streamlined, and doesnt contain useless crap because it was entirely hand written, including the php.

Now going on to darkbasic. Yes, for anyone out there who wants to produce a game on top of layers, with little code, and in a short amount of time. Sure, recommend it. If you want to be able to have a greater link with hardware, then use C++ with dx. But what if joelmagar wants to program for the Zune or Xbox360. Maybe he wants a little bit more flexibility and greater support in a newer langauge, but doesnt want to hassle with the problems of C++.

And please explain this line to me.

Are you serious? So you're telling me that XNA, the architecture and framework on which the xbox 360. Largest selling and outperforming gaming console, is not meant for games and their development. Microsoft, spending billions on building XNA...and its not meant for game development? Lets branch out a little. C++, the main language that has built 99.999% of games with dx, and he wouldnt be able to develop his own. Yeah, that makes sense...

Seriously. I mean no disrespect to you and what you use, but dont disrespect me or my coding. Especially if you have yet to show any of your own.

I didn't mean to disrespect you, I get kinda pissed off when ppl put stuff down without reason...

I know what HTML is, you don't have to explain, I do development myself. I will post some up, booting my Mac right now. I know about languages, several of them, Java especially because that was the language I started with, then moved into script kiddie Visual Basic, and I am now taking an online C++ class. I know quite a bit of the XCode IDE, Objective-C, and AppleScript because I like to do Mac development(no cruddy Windows UI).

My reasons for recommending DarkBasic are as follows, a) it's comparable with Visual Basic because of it's ability to be rapidly developed, and b) it's BASIC, therefore it's easier. And the reason for me to recommend something easier is because if the threader knew what he needed to know about XNA this thread would not be here.

And DarkBasic is an actual language built for game development rather than a library like XNA. So there ya go. Why develop a game with DX when you have no clue how to even frigging use it? That's like building a house without first laying a foundation.

Anyway, here's a site that a friend had an idea for(I developed), a universal stats site for Source engine games. It saves the server admin from having to install HLStatsX on a host, which I might add is a PITA.

I am looking for the iPhone apps that I created, when I decided to reinstall OSX on my Mac I backed up to an external and now I cannot remember where I saved my Dashcode/XCode project files in the OS.:o
