1. Yes, the dummies books are good and it will be something good to get you started.
2. It cant just do your HW. You would have to write a program first, and as a beginner, it would likely be a lot easier to just do the homework instead of writing the program. There is a lot to learn before you can just write something to do your homework.

Is there only 1 book of it? Or is there a few? Im just starting with it and don't really know anything about it and apparently is good...
How would I write the programs though?

I've never used c++, but i took a whole year of java and was in competitions and stuff, and i would not be able to write a program to do my HW, although if you are smart, you could probably go a little faster. I had some idgits in my class. Even if the language isnt that hard, it is so much material to learn.
I have no idea, get some books and try to learn the language.
EDIT: Does anyone know the difference between the regular c++ and c++ with Visual Basics
use dev c++, its an IDE(Integrated Development Environment): http://www.bloodshed.net/devcpp.html

C++ is C with classes.
with that i recommed you learn C first. i did C for a whole year at uni and i found it damn hard (mind you i passed with a C grade
)

C++ is middle level Programming language. i.e. it can be used both as high level & low level

I don't think there is a strict rule Yes or No, but just use common sense, for example what is the point of posting in an old thread when the problem is long solved or not relevant anymore (like hpi stopping c++ ages ago).
