Windows was downloading updates and installing them and I stupudily played a game. Well game over man; the update failed and now the computer boots to
Stop: c0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry Cannot Load The Hive (File): \SystemRoot\System32\Config\Software

I did a repair install a couple of days ago so I do not have restore point data files laying around. That seems to be a common fix. Is there a way to fix this without doing a windows install?

did a repair install and it fixed the issue but looks like some icons are damaged and antivir is not updating and some other stuff is banged up....

Use spotmau. It can repair your registry to default setting and I tried it and it did a great job but the thing is the program itself is not free..
