C2D Cache size

Hi all,

Well im saving for a new pc because as you can see the rig in my sig is quite outdated now.

I was leaning towards a Core 2 duo.....Quad core will be too expensive so hopefully when quad core are released the C2Ds will be cheaper.

I was wondering if cache size realy makes a diffrence between these two processors
The e6600 has 4mb L2 cache but the e6300 only has 2mb

Would this be a major diffrence?
I wouldnt be overclocking the processor btw.

Quad core is already out.
If you're not overclocking, the e6600 is obviously better due to higher stock frequency and more cache (though this has minimal performance increases).

a e6600 and a OC'd e6300 @ the same clock speed have a almost identical performance
* same goes for e6400

wait...so what does cache size do then for the CPU performance wise? and what does the cache do physically?
