Just wandering will the e6400 perform ok alongside my radeon 9600 or will it affect the processors performance?

I know that im sticking an old GPU with a new cpu but honestly the 9600 does me fine....plays everything i want it to so no need to upgrade it just yet.

I can only afford to buy a new mobo and maybe the e6400 so i will be re-using the rest of my components.

Thanks

If you do, you would have to buy a motherboard such as the ASRock Dual-VSTA, which allows you to use an AGP card with the Core 2 Duo. But in games there would be a severe bottleneck, and games probably wont perform much better then they do now.

If you can, I would at least get a cheap PCI-E card like the x300 so you can at least get a motherboard which you can upgrade later.

Dont get me wrong, the Dual-VSTA s a great motherboard for what it offers, but its really only to hold you over until you can afford a nice PCI-E and DDR2 system.

I understand what your thinking, but I wouldnt upgrade my CPU and Motherboard and get a AGP board, AGP is going out now, so to get a AGP board now to save a 9600 would put you behind as soon as you got it

hmm thats what i was thinking about.
my friend Kornowskis doing the same as me but he does however have a batter graphics card...but still he uses AGP.

You could get an E6300 for £118, the DUAL-VISTA board for £40 and have £40 left over, I don't know if that would get you a PCI-e card though? :)

Ya, I bought a Dual-VSTA because I wanted to use my current AGP and DDR with the Core 2 Duo. But similar to his, I had a x850XT PE AGP card, and 1GB of DDR400. It performed well, but the 9600 just doesnt seem worth it to buy another AGP board.

£40 isnt realy much though mate dont you think to but a graphics card....my 9600 cost me £50 brand new.

and probably the cheapest pci-e card would perform even worser than my 9600 :D

i realy dunno what to do:D

personaly i would like to get a new system ,Mobo, cpu graphics....but memory realy expensive in the uk and i just dont have the cash:(
