Hello people,

This may be a stupid question but is there any motherboards out there for the Core 2 duo E6400 that supports just normal DDR Pc3200 ram? And not DDR2 ram?

Ive seen a C2d E6400 for realy a good price here...

Well i dont have much money to splash around but could i buy that C2D and get a Mobo that supports DDR Pc3200 memory so i can use my 1Gig stick of memory i already have?

Or is this just not possible?
Would normal DDR Pc3200 ram lower the cpus performance?

I would like also to re-use my hard drive if possible.

Thanks ;)

your hd would be fine, no use changing that. i do believe that using ddr400 ram would lower your performance a little, but not by too much. (also, i cant find any mobos that support it)
EDIT: ok i found a few, on newegg, but they are very low quality, (~40$)

It is possible, but you will have to go with a lower quality motherboard, and your options are going to be limited.

okay can you specify a mobo that supports it?
I cant seem to find one:confused:

I just want to be able to re-use my hard drive and ram...I can buy a better Gfx card at a later date and onboard sound would be fine.;)

Also i can get a new psu too.

ASRock 775Dual-VSTA

Just about the only motherboard that supports DDR and Core 2 Duo. However, it doesn't have any PCI-e X16 slot, just an AGP....

Well thats even better because i can re-use my 9600 until i can buy a better AGP Gfx card.

I think it will be alot better than my old sempy 2800+:D

So looks like im gonna try if i can get my uncle to get me that mobo and a new psu and case.

Then re-use my ram and hard drive.
Missed anything else out?On board sound is fine.

Thanks for finding that motherboard out for me;)

I used to have that motherboard, it was great because I wanted to use my AGP card and DDR RAM. It actually performs very well, you just cant overclock too well.

Thats not a problem,Im not intrested in overclocking anyway.
Im sure the e6400 performes well without it been overclocked:D

Ya it performs pretty good, I would actually recommend that ASRock motherboard as long as you dont intend to overclock much. I only got my E6300 to 2.08Ghz, while my current mobo can get it to 3.13Ghz.

Okay thanks,

Im gonna see if my uncle can get me that mobo as he builds pcs....and im asking my uncle Because i dont usualy buy things online...Infact i never have:D
But if i cant get one then i think i will have to order one.

I just dunno if i should wait and save then buy the e6400 and a new mobo with a Pci-e slot and compleatly build a new rig.

It would be better building a new rig but everythings $$$:D

I have that ASRock motherboard sitting in my closet collecting dust right now.

Hmmm,

I think i will just save and get me a new system as advised by my uncle.
I mean even if i buy that ASrock mobo all i can realy do is upgrade my processor i will still be stuck with the same Gfx card ,and i would like to get a more up to date Pci-e Graphics card which that mobo doesnt support so that will hold me back.

How much would you sell that ASrock mobo you have for anyway?

I didnt mean it to sound like its sitting in my closet because it's crap, I just dont have a processor for it.

I was thinking of selling the board for $45 if your interested.
