Cable Vs Dsl

muccccccch faster. mine atm is 23 Mb/s download and 1.5 Mb/s up. and the only disadvantage is price

price is often the big thing for some people and now that the cost of living is going up it is a big thing. We here in Aus.. at my house we have ADSL 1.5MB down and 512KBs UP, also you can't even get it down the phone line.... sooo yeah....

i have cable here 10mb down 1.2mb up and im payin 80 for the internet and digital cable, well my buddy down the road just switched to cable cuz he was payin 40 for 1.5mb down and 256k up so dsl prices dont tend to be that cheap

likewise and if dad would let us!

Yeah, thats basically the same problem here. My parents don't want to swap providers because our current provider (Telecom) supplys us with our phone-lines.

Telecom are total rubbish.

Well we have telstra for phone and aanet and we have been very happy with them and have only had 1 or 2 problems with them!

well what were plannin on doin is dropping the phone like (-$15) then obtain cable (+$30 a month for first 6 months) then pay 50 for the rest after that, so we just have to pay an extra of $5 every month, we never use our phone line. its soo redundanct when we have our cellphones.

Cable is much more faster and reliable than DSL. I remember the Insight commercial I saw once, and I happen to agree with it.

DSL = Definite Slow Line

Cable is the future =)

I don't see how people can simply say "cable is faster then DSL".

It varies greatly, and we need to know what speed you are referring to. Saying that cable is faster then DSL could mean that a 2Mbps cable connection is better/faster then a 4Mbps DSL connection, which isn't true.

Simply put, it depends on your location and the ISP.

i have comcast and it's not great. i get glitches of lag when i play games. i don't know what it is, but i think it's the wiring in my house, as if i hook up to the port in the bedroom the lags increase threefold, and if i run it from the living room it's not but every now and then. i manage to get over it.

had att dsl for 2 years and it was absoultey hands down the best deal i've ever had on internet service. i never had a single problem with it, not even one.

as for cost, i get internet+hdtv basic on comcast for $108 a month (taxes included). att dsl was $6 for the phone line and another $20 for the service, so it was near $40 for the internet after taxes and such. at the time i had DISH and it was about $60 for the month, so my service now is comparable. don't really see the price difference as being significant.

how can i find out my connection speed, so i can tell my family its worth getting cable ?

I have DSL, and in my area is cheaper than cable at the speed.. I get 10.0Mb/s forgot the upload, think around 1.5 - 2.0, but I pay around $50 for this and cable wanted $85 for the same speeds..

I pay $100 for 5mb line and 4 room tv and phone. I get almost 5mb on down speed on speedtest.net. The only better thing with DSL is you have no speed drops and have a good upload speed.

Go to www.speedtest.com

And if you tell your parents to get cable, they may just get the cheapest option available, which actually might be slower then your current DSL connection.

sorry, i think you might have meant .net?

$75 for net and tv
