I installed COD WaW on Ubuntu 11.04 using wine and it worked. :D :D
According to this list wine can support MW2.
I also got a decent FPS. Like 50+.
Even though my Ubuntu is i386.
But I was not able to play Black OPs.
Did not try BFBC2 but I think it won't run.
Hitman Blood money failed as well but Cricket 07 runs fine and so does counter strike.
Just to let you guys know who haven't tried that much of gaming with GNU/Linux OSes.
Here is a useful link

The best way to game in a Linux OS like Ubuntu is running steam using wine. From my understanding of steam is it is a virtual consol on your pc, so if you can run that it wine which it does the games in there run with no problem.

A lot of games run under wine these days, the only one's that are harder is games made by EA in my experience. EA put's some crazy security in the way to make sure there stuff is no pirated which makes it hard for wine to run it.

Any evidence? Let me edit this, what i mean is can you show some screenshots, what resolution, FRAPS> etc etc

Resolution was 1920x1080.
Took ;)
BTW if you try to run the Solo mode directly it will give an error but you will be able to run the multiplayer mode and then switch to the solo mode.

Why was I asked to give an evidence??
Did you not believe me and it is also given in the list that it supports mw2.

Great Job mihir! I got Starcraft 2 running a while ago with 10.04. Aside from the peformance issues that comes with running it on my laptop it ran great with no configuration.

I tried to get MW2 working and it did not go well at all. I got steam installed, it ran really slow but it was there and functioning. MW2 install screen was the wrong size so I had to guess where the install link was. I got it installing but it hung on the disk change. I never got it running.

I used the Play On Linux installer. Maybe I should just try it with Wine only.

Play on linux is nothing more then winetricks with a fancy gui. I've never gotten anything to work under playonlinux, i found it much easier using what i find on WineHQ+winetricks when needed.

Yeah I know that it is just the config files that come pre instaled for you. How do you use winetricks? I have heard of it but I could never get anything good out of it. :(

download it, run it with
sh winetricks.sh
(or something like that)
dialog pops up, ask what you want to install. Find it, and follow directions as needed. Worked great installing steam, since it installs the needed fonts and hotfixes to keep it from crashing. This is on Cruncbang and Linux Mint. Never used it under Ubuntu, and every distro usually needs a tweak here or there.

You can usually find complete instructions for a game/app on WineHQ so i always check there first.

Some people just like to be awkward and like to see their name up,hahaha.

excuse me? pull your head in mate. I was simply interested in FRAPS benchies. Valid question, wouldn't be the first time someone has posted bs here. Secondly, i find your post russb highly ironic... btw i your sig should be spelt endorse, not indorse, which is a legal term for title transfer. Unless that is what you mean of course.

Given that you were even suprised "... and it worked :)" and that others didn't it is clearly not a cut and dry case here. I simply wanted to see more information.
