hi guys i am trying to download some family video and have tried windows moviemaker but it doesnt detect my cam corder. it is connected via a firewire but each time i click on capture it says no camcorder detected any ideas

There are no camera drivers with Firewire. You can do as Cameldude suggest and try USB if you had. Movie Maker does support Firewire but you may want to try another capture program to double check it's working properly.
