Can´t use two memories at the same time

Hi.

I have had problem with my computer for a several months and always thought it was windows 7 that was the source of the pain (Always blame Microsoft, right? :P). Then I run memtest on my computer and found out that one memory were broken and i had to order a new one. The new memory is the same type of memory (Crucial 2GB, 240-pin DIMM, DDR3 PC3-10600 memory module). I then did the test with the new memory and got the same result (the computer reboot itself after 5 second in the test). I then did the test with only the new memory and i did work fine but when i have to memories the test fail. I have a ASUS P5Q3 motherboard with 4 memory slots. I have tried to put the memories in different slots and they all work.

Anyone knows thats going on? I can use the computer without any problem with only one of the two 2gb memory cards but I would really like to be able to use the second card as well.

Memory compatibility in motherboards is an odd thing. You can have two sticks that work fine by themselves, but won't work together. There's not really anything that you can do to make them work together, you just have to try a different brand/model.

Also, just because it's "the same memory", doesn't always mean it's the same memory. I got some PNY ram for a laptop, but one stick was dead so I sent them back. The replacement they sent me was the same model number, but it was clearly manufactured different because it was dual sided and the ram I sent back was single sided. Turns out that both sticks worked but the new sticks weren't compatible in the laptops.

I would try manually underclocking and/or overvolting the memory through BIOS. You may not be able to do this if it's a stock computer, though. Also, with two sticks in there, did you put them in single- or dual-channel?
