Well the answer is yes it can. I forgot to check my pockets before throwing my trousers in the wash, pretty stupid, anyway i left my cheap little flash drive in them. after i had discovered this i was pretty annoyed as u can imagine so i just left it for a week or two, when it had dried out i pulled it apart and it looked ok so i thought what the hell ile just try it! possibly another stupid idea, well it worked so i got the stuff i needed off it and took it straight out. just for the record im not so poor i cant afford a new one so i dont use it anymore :D. anyway i wouldnt recommend anyone else doing this just incase u arnt so lucky! :D:D:D

same thing happened to me..... twice! i swear it's waterproof.... probably 50m. but i let it dry a couple of days before plugging it in.

i'm not going to put super important things in it as it has been through hell

lol it sounds like it! if the flash drive was damaged would it harm the computer in anyway or would it just not work?

i was concerned about it shorting something while connected... because of electricity and water. that's why i let it naturally dry for a couple of days

flash media >>>>> floppies

They are basically waterproof. I've seen many get washed and come out working just fine. About the only problems you may run into would be rust or trying to use it too early and it shorting something...

Someone I worked for a few years back went into the ocean with his keys and USB flash drive. The USB connection was completely covered in rust, but once it got a decent connection, it worked perfectly.

its pretty strange if u think about it, its electronic so it should stop working, especially in salt water. maybe it has something to do with it not having its own inbuilt power source.

That's a good thing to hear. I always leave my wallet in my pocket, and it goes through the wash like every other week. Havn't done a flash drive, but it might happen.

Your all so lucky : /. I had my cheap (must have been real cheap) 128mb flash drive go through the wash, and even though I let it dry, it died. You have to push it into the usb slot half way, wait a minute, then the rest of the way. As soon as autoplay pops up you have to click cancel on that, then you have about 4 minutes to get whatever file you want before windows doesnt recognize it.

Granted, I have 3 other drives, so it doesnt really matter :P.
