Can a mobo control the PSU?

Currently, I don't have any fans tied to my motherboard except for the heatsink fan. If I were to plug in the sensor from the PSU into the motherboard, would it control the PSU fan speed? Maybe monitor the PSU temperature?

I have the Thermaltake PurePower 420w without the PFC. I got the Asus K8N motherboard and it has a PWR_FAN connector, which I'm assuming is for the PSU. I'm also assuming it's there to monitor the fan speeds, but I just wanted to make sure.

I'm running AMD's Cool & Quiet and Asus' Q-fan features and the PSU fans never seem to go above 1800rpm. Currently, my temperatures are CPU = 26C and mobo = 24C. I'm just a bit worried because under BIOS, the PSU fan speeds are always shown in red. Why is that? Or better yet, is everything okay?

Id be a tad concerned when the CPU isnt as hot as the mobo.... The Venus12 has its fins soldered (rather than cut) and thus isnt *that* effective (compared to say the heatsink on the Silenboost K8 which i believe is cut ... which leads to an interesting swap if you have the time/money)

I'm thinking that you might have mistakenly read PSU as CPU in my post. My CPU is fine, I still haven't seen it go past 34C, even under heavy load. However, my PSU fans still won't break 1800rpm. I wanted to know if that was okay, assuming that my mobo is keeping it in check. Besides, I constantly put my hand near it to see if it's running hot. It's always cold.

Ive not mistaken the PSU temp (because you havent listed it i dont think)

As for "rpms",
1. rpms dont mean jack
2. Is the mobo controlling the speed or is it just reading the speed. Ive not seen a setup where the mobo controls the speed....

I have no idea. The speeds keep fluctuating but not drastically. The reason I was worried is because the PSU fan speed is listed in the color red (nothing else is) under BIOS.

I've got a ThermalTake purepower 480W and it does have a FAN connector. But the only use for it is to read the FAN RPMs. It's somewhere around 1280 RPM, I've had some trouble getting speedfan to read it, since the bios can't do it because it's too low. This may be why it's showing in red on some mobo's. Anyway, the PSU has PFC... so I don't care :)
