Can an External Hard Drive be my only Hard Drive ?

Yes and no... First off, it depends on the interface. Many newer computers support bootable USB devices, others don't. If it's eSATA, that should work without a hitch. I'm not too sure if any computers support firewire bootable devices...

The real question is why... I have a pretty good feeling you're wanting to use a USB drive, correct? Internal drives are typically around twice as fast as external USB drives. Plus most all external enclosures have poor air circulation and can overheat.

Is simply removing the drive from the enclosure and sticking it inside the computer out of the question? Even 2.5" drives could be converted with a very cheap converter to work on in desktops
