Can anyone help troubleshoot a strange issue?????

About 6 months ago we started to notice on our Windows XP station.....we were losing the ability to highlight text on the screen, then we were unable to move scroll bars with left clicking the mouse, then we were unable to move windows around the screen. For example, we can't grab the top bar and move the window. All of this is very frustrating and limiting. We can't highlight text and copy text as a result. Seems to be an issue with the mouse? I thought a mouse was fairly simple technology so how do they go bad in a year? I just reimaged my PC this morning and we have the same issue! Although it was noticably worse after installing my HP Photosmart 7760 printer. What the heck gives?

Update - I went and removed the HP software and cleaned the registry and it did not solve the issue. Maybe I was imagining it....it can't be the printer drivers. It must be something to do with the mouse or keyboard set up? We originally installed a wireless keyboard and mouse. The wireless unit is USB and we still have the keyboard. The mouse was always fussy and ate batteries for lunch so we switched to a USB mouse. So, now we have the wireless keyboard and the USB Alaska mouse.

Still the mouse does not funtion correctly.....but I don't have another mouse around to test, LOL! Seems weird why the only thing the mouse is capable of is right or left clicking, no dragging, highlighting, scrolling, plus the scroll wheel does not work any longer. Just a bad mouse? :)

Thanks!

Hi John! Yea, I thik i am reading way to into this...thinking it is something else. Everyone is closed today but tomorow I am going to pick up a new mouse. I added some things to my original post up above about my configuration.

That would be the best case scenario! Ha. Thanks.

Is it a problem that I run the keyboard wireless while the mouse is USB?
