Can anyone recomend free software for image-copy and file-based backups?

I want to do an image copy of my hard drive, and also set up a file-based backup software for my system so that certain folders can be backup up at regular intervals. I'm running windows XP.

Can anyone recommend some good free software to accomplish these two things?

For file based backup there are plenty of free utilities. It's largely a question of finding something that suits you. As a typical that has been mentioned recently in the forum, SyncBack free which uses zip compression. For minor backups I use EZBackitup but it has no compression. Google "file backup software free".
